Overview

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0-5 years. The qualification content meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

What will I study on the course?

This qualification will enable you to learn about all aspects of children’s care and education and develop the knowledge and skills you need when working with young children from 14 mandatory units to achieve the total number of unit credits you need for the qualification. Examples of areas you will study include:

• Roles and responsibilities of the early years practitioner
• Health & safety
• Equality, diversity and inclusive practice
• Safeguarding
• Support care routines
• Promote play
• Partnership working

Work Placement

You will need to be working or volunteering in a school or early years setting for at least eight hours a week throughout the duration of the course.

Entry Requirements

You will need to be working or volunteering in an early years setting. You will need a letter from your placement to confirm this.
You must have at least Level 1 or an equivalent qualification in English, adult literacy or communications and Maths, adult numeracy or application of number. We will assess your English and Maths at the interview. You must have a good standard of spoken and written English.
You will need to have an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check prior to beginning the course to ensure you are eligible to work with children and young people.

How will I be assessed?

You will build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed by your assessor using a range of methods, including:

• Direct observation in your placement school
• Coursework ranging from assignments to reflective journals

How will I study?

You will have regular workshops and contact with your assessor via our E-portfolio platform
There is no set start date – you can enrol throughout the year and complete the course at your own pace to meet your individual needs. It should take approximately twelve months to complete.

Progression.

This qualification allows progression on to the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other relevant Level 3 qualifications relating to early years and child care

How much does the course cost?

The course costs £1457.50. We have a flexible payment plan available so you can pay in instalments.
